Instant Pot Vietnamese Caramelized Pork Spare Ribs
If you love porks spare ribs, you might like this. This is tasty and soft ribs. A classic vietnamese dish.
Instant Pot Vietnamese Caramelized Pork Spare Ribs

Ingredients:
- 3.5 lbs. pork spare ribs cut into half
- ½ tsp. five spice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 shallot, minced
- 1 tsp. fine sea salt
- ¼ tsp. ground black pepper
- 2 tsp. chicken bouillon or seasoning powder
- 1 tbsp. fish sauce
- ½ cup coconut water
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp. water
- Boil the ribs for 4 minutes. Rinse and drain.
- Season the ribs with five spice, garlic, shallot, salt, pepper, bouillon or seasoning powder and fish sauce. Mix well and set aside for 15 minutes.
- Set the Instant Pot on Sauté Mode. Add sugar and water. Gently swirl the pan. Caramelize the sugar. (Note: I remove the inner pot to swirl then put it back. The edge of the pot is not hot.)
- Add ribs and sauté for a few minutes then add coconut water and mix well.
- Set the Instant Pot on Manual mode, High Pressure for 8 Minutes, 10 mins NPR.
- Once cooking is done, release the remaining pressure. Open the lid carefully.
- Switch to Sauté mode. Mix until the liquid evaporates.
- Garnish with green onions.
- Serve with hot steamed rice.
- Enjoy.
