Crispy Air-Fried Tofu (Kid-Approved!)
Crispy Air-Fried Tofu (Kid-Approved!)
I’m usually not a fan of tofu—especially in soups or stir-fries—but crispy air-fried tofu is a total game-changer. Even my kids, who normally refuse to eat tofu, said these tasted just like chicken nuggets (and I never told them any different!). It’s a definite thumbs-up at our house.

Prep Time: 30+ mins (marinating)
Cook Time: 20 mins
Ingredients
For the Tofu & Marinade:
1 lb (16 oz) firm tofu (e.g., House Foods brand), drained and cut into cubes
3 tbsp Maggi seasoning
1 tsp white wine vinegar
2 tsp vegetable oil
1 clove (1 tsp) garlic, grated
1 tsp ginger, grated
For Breading:
Potato starch
1 egg + 1 tbsp milk or water (whisked together for egg wash)
Panko breadcrumbs
Vegetable oil spray
Instructions
Marinate: In a small bowl, whisk together the Maggi seasoning, white wine vinegar, vegetable oil, grated garlic, and grated ginger. Pour the marinade over the tofu cubes, tossing gently to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes (2 hours gives the best flavor).
Dredge & Coat: Set up a breading station with three bowls: potato starch, egg wash, and Panko breadcrumbs. Dip each piece of marinated tofu into the potato starch, submerge in the egg wash, and press into the Panko breadcrumbs until fully coated.
Air Fry: Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and place the tofu cubes in a single layer. Lightly spray the tops with vegetable oil. Air fry at 375°F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Note: Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model (tested using a Breville Smart Oven Air).
